Great press

First time using it today and I have half a dozen very clean, very consistent prints. I had almost given up with lino cutting but the Pooki press has renewed my enthusiasm. Fast delivery as well. Thank you

✅ Want Some Tips on Using the Pooki Press?

📌 Why Do My Prints Come Out Patchy?

🎨 1. Uneven Ink Application

Listen for the "sizzling bacon" sound! This means your ink coverage is perfect.
Apply multiple thin layers rather than one thick layer for even distribution.
Roll ink in two directions (at 90 degrees) for best coverage.

📜 2. Choosing the Right Paper

Lightweight & smooth papers (e.g., Seawhite Cupcycle 140gsm) provide the best ink absorption.
Heavier, textured papers might need adjustments in pressure or multiple passes.
Experiment with different paper types to find your perfect match!

🛠 3. Pressure & Press Setup

Ensure the press plates are perfectly parallel—fully tighten bolts and wing-nuts.
Use a press blanket, possibly doubling it up for even pressure on certain areas.

🔍 4. Hand Burnishing for Tricky Areas

Use a spoon or baren to manually apply extra pressure on tricky areas.
Slowly peel paper back to check ink coverage before fully removing.

5. Experiment & Adjust!

Small tweaks in ink, pressure, or paper type can significantly improve your prints. Keep experimenting! If you're still having trouble, reach out to us at shop@pookipresses.co.uk—we’re happy to help!

🔧 Do I Have to Set Up the Press?

  • Unbox your press and place it on a sturdy, flat surface.

  • The press comes ready to use, but for optimal results:
  • Fully close the press plates to ensure alignment.
  • After your first print, leave the press closed and use the provided 5mm Allen Key to tighten the U-Bend bolts.
  • If needed, secure wing nuts firmly using pliers.
  • This reduces shifting of prints or paper.

🎨 How Do I Layer the Block, Paper, and Blanket Correctly?

  • A properly set-up press ensures even pressure. Here’s the ideal layering:
  • Bottom Plate (base)
  • Newsprint/Scrap Paper (optional, protects from ink)
  • Your Block (Lino, woodcut, or type-high block)
  • Printing Paper (directly over inked block)
  • Press Blanket (for even pressure)
  • Top Plate (applies pressure—close and push!)

🧐 Troubleshooting for the Best Print

  • Patchy print? Try doubling the press blanket or increasing pressure. Also, apply thinner ink layers in two directions.
  • Paper tearing or smudging? Adjust pressure or switch to smoother, lightweight paper
